Marriott to rework digital operations in China with Ant Group alliance

Marriott International has reportedly signed a joint venture agreement with Ant Group to improve its digital operations in China. The world’s largest hotel chain intends to offer Alipay members numerous benefits when signed up for Marriott’s signature loyalty initiative called Marriott Bonvoy Rewards Program.

According to reliable sources, Marriott is looking to offer additional membership benefits on its products and services to ensure an improved consumer experience. An alliance with a leading digital open platform such as Alipay will allow Marriott to expand its reach in China.

It is worth noting that Marriott has managed to gain around 10 million new Bonvoy members since 2017 through various partnerships with Fliggy, Ant Group, and Alibaba Group. The latest alliance will also offer fresh opportunities for the tourism space in their respective digitalization efforts.

The President of Greater China at Marriott International Henry Lee was quoted saying that the hotel chain currently has around 450 properties across its 23 brands in the country. The group now intends to offer exclusive travel experiences for affluent members using Alipay to support the recovery of the travel sector, Lee claimed.

Kelli Li, the Vice President of Ant Group mentioned that the company is thrilled to expand its alliance with Marriott to improve digital operations as well as offer Alipay users with added benefits. The executive added that the two companies are looking forward to working with other partners and offering an all-inclusive experience to Alipay users.

Qualified Alipay members can sign up for Marriott Bonvoy membership between May 24th this year to March 31st next year. For newer members, they will be able to enjoy breakfast at only 1 RMB at select Marriott properties between 24th May to 24th June 2022.

Meanwhile, Marriott International will work on deepening its current alliance with Alibaba Group as well as Ant Group to offer more inspiration for travelers through exclusive membership benefits.
